When you hear the words “innovation,” and “creativity,” which companies come to mind? For me, it’s definitely Google, and this awesome YouTube billboard is just another example of their think-outside-the-box strategies. Instead of posting a static billboard to advertise YouTube, Google decided to create something that was as interactive as the streaming-video web site itself. They posted up several of these billboards, which are essentially empty frames made to look like the YouTube media player screen. At the top of the screen in the content search box, there are terms which are related to whatever scene the billboard focuses on. For example, at one billboard set up at an intersection, the search box reads “people crossing the street.” Anyone who looks at the billboard has the impression they are watching a YouTube video. Talk about awesomely creative!
Billboards give companies the ability to communicate their marketing message in a larger-than-life manner to really drive their point home. This capability is demonstrated by this unique Prestige Omega Cookware billboard. After doing some market research and determining that consumers were disappointed with how weak the handles were in their existing pots and pans, Prestige Omega set out to create a line of cookware with extra-durable handles. To promote the new products they created this billboard, which jokes that the strength of the new handle is capable of supporting the entire sign by itself! This is a funny and creative way to place the focus on the new durability of Prestige Omega products. I’m sure it left a lasting impression and increased interest in the new pans.
On a more positive note than our last Olympic-themed advertisement, here’s some pictures from Adidas “Together in 2008, Impossible is Nothing” campaign. The Olympics have historically been a huge publicity outlet, and Adidas has taken advantage of this by becoming the Official Sportswear Partner of the 2008 games. In the largest Adidas brand campaign ever created by a single market, Adidas will feature these inspirational images on billboards and in print throughout the country. The concept reflects the collectivist nature of China and team spirit of the Olympics.
Maybe it’s because it’s almost lunch time, but I think this Cadbury billboard is awesome! It really looks good enough to eat…It was done by Toronto-based Zig advertising agency a few years back.
In the spirit of the current Olympics, a few Olympic-oriented ads will be featured in the upcoming days. This one is actually from the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, CA, 2008. The Reporters Without Borders, an international organization advocating freedom of press, used it to raise awareness of their concerns about China’s repression of journalists. The simplistic but powerful parody of the rings was certainly eyecatching.
This summer truly overflowed with interesting stunt advertising, ranging from humorous to just plain absurd! In some combination of the two qualities, this Chevrolet billboard was concocted entirely of pennies. The point was to emphasis the automobile budget-friendless…Perhaps money really does make the world go ’round, because the promotional billboard was picked clean within half an hour!
Here’s a fascinating new trend in billboard technology: companies are getting back to the basics with some sand billboards! Of course, the durability isn’t the best, but with the intensity of media coverage these days that won’t matter much. It’s a particularly great concept for eco-friendly promos, as the right sign aptly exemplifies.
A little cleverness goes a long way here! With almost no words, the billboard powerfully implies that only the toughest, most skilled people should apply to the special forces. It humorously challenges its target audience and reminds them of the strong, adventurous and bold qualities of the army.
